Interior metal stud framing renovation of a historic Chicago school building.
The Stewart School project brought The Edge into a historic Chicago school building — a structure with original masonry walls, period windows, and decades of deferred maintenance that complicated every framing decision. Historic renovation framing requires reading the building as it is, not as drawings assume it to be.
Our crews worked floor by floor through the existing structure, establishing new interior partitions while carefully protecting original masonry, window frames, and structural elements. Precision laser layout was critical: original floors and ceilings were out of level in ways that required constant field adjustment to produce plumb, square partition walls.
